Los Banos Rotary Club History
District
Assembly
Several members of the Los Banos
Rotary Club and their wives were in Monterey over the weekend, attending an Assembly
of Rotary District 106, which includes 51 clubs from Stockton to Ventura. Headed
by President-elect R. Lindemann Sr.' and wife, the local group included Mr. and
Mrs. Chas. Alden, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Lorensen and daughter Pat, and Newt Olsen.
The Assembly opened Sunday morning and continued through Tuesday afternoon,
with all business sessions held at the large U.S.O. hall in Monterey.
Lindeman
said that the assembly was one of the finest ever held in the district, with emphasis
on the four divisions of Rotary Service-club service, community service, vocational
service and international service. Most of the delegates attending agreed that
the highlight address of the meeting was a talk by Tully Knowles, on International
Service. Knowles, retired president of the College of the Pacific at Stockton,
stressed the importance of Rotary in today's complicated International relationships,
and the importance of Rotary fellowship throughout the world in fostering goodwill
and understanding among all peoples. Knowles said there is two distinct worlds
today, which may be simply classified and identified as being with or without
Rotary. Countries whose theories and government are opposed to Rotary principles
of understanding and good will compose today's threat to worldwide peace.
While
the men folks were attending the business sessions, the ladies were royally entertained
by the host group, and all were taken on tours covering historical points of interest
on the Monterey peninsulas. Highlight of the social program was a dinner dance
Monday evening at the Casa Munras Hotel.
