Dr.
L. R. Hillyer Tells of Travels
A member
of the local Rotary Club Dr. L. R. Hillyer, provided the program of the club's
noon luncheon Tuesday, giving a brief summary of a recent vacation trip taken
by he and his family through Mexico, Central America and Cuba. They left Los Angeles
by plane on July 14 and made the non-stop flight to Mexico City in less than eight
hours. After several days sightseeing in Mexico City and Cuernavaca, they continued
on to Vera Cruz and then southward to Yucatan and a two-day side trip to the Yucatan
jungles. The weather there, Dr. Hillyer said, was the hottest imaginable and made
the San Joaquin valley sunshine seem like a summer resort.
From Yucatan
they took a plane northward to Cuba where they spent two enjoyable days before
beginning their return trip via Miami, Fla., New Orleans, San Antonio and El Paso,
Tex. Dr. Hillyer prescribed the trip as an excellent vacation tour for any Rotarian
who had the time and inclination. He also showed a number of interesting scenic
pictures taken while on the trip.
