Arthur Childs, agriculture
instructor at the local high school, and Dan Pricolo, high school student and
member of the Future Farmers of America, were guests at the Rotary Club luncheon
Tuesday noon, and spoke briefly concerning Future Farmer activities. Childs, who
only recently joined the local school faculty after serving for the past five
years in the army, spoke very briefly concerning F.F.A. activities and the agriculture
program in the local school, and then introduced the principal speaker, Mr. Pricolo.
Explaining the functions and work program of the F.F.A, Pricolo said
the working program is fully contained in the club’s 11-point program, which
is:
To develop competent, aggressive, rural and agricultural leadership; to
create and nuture a love of country life; to strengthen the confidence of farm
boys and young men in themselves and their work; to create more interest in the
intelligent choice of farming occupation; to encourage members in the development
of individual farming programs and establishment in farming; to encourage members
to improve the farm home and its surroundings; to participate in worthy undertakings
for the improvement of agriculture; to develop character, train for useful citizenship
and foster patriotism; to participate in cooperative effort; to encourage improvement
in scholarship; to provide and encourage the development of organized rural recreational
activities.
Pricolo, on behalf of his club, also took the opportunity
to thank the Rotary Club members for their sustained interest in F.F.A. affairs
and for their support of club activities.
Rotary president Charles T.
Kaljian announced that there will be no luncheon meeting next Tuesday, but that
Rotarians and their wives would gather for a ladies’ night program Tuesday
evening at 7:30.
