Ackerman Speaks To Rotary Club
John Ackerman of Modesto, Scout Executive of the Yosemite Area Council, addressed members of the local Rotary Club Tuesday noon on the subject of "A Code to Live By." A Rotarian himself Ackerman compared the Rotary code "Service Above Self," to the Boy Scout code, which embodies the same principles of fair play, honesty and clean thinking and urged the full practice of either or both codes as a means of enjoying a fuller, richer life.
He highly commended the volunteer adult workers who in each community carry on the work of the Boy Scouts, and said that if it were not for the faithful volunteer work of some 1200 adult Scouters within the Yosemite Area Council, the Scout program could not survive. He lauded the men in this community who have contributed their time and effort in the Boy Scout work, and suggested that their efforts be augmented by others in the community who desire the teachings of the Boy Scouts reflected in the lives of tomorrow's citizens.
Ackerman was introduced by Francis Buck, Scout executive for this community. Several Boy Scout leaders and committee members were guests at the luncheon.
