Anderson Concludes Rotary Year
It was play day at the Rotary Club luncheon Tuesday noon, as the 60 plus members joined in poking good natural fun at retiring president Kenneth Anderson and at the same time extending to him their congratulations and appreciation for his loyal work in directing the club's activities through the past year.
The fun started as Dr. L. R. Hillyer, program chairman, introduced a Merced physician and surgeon, Dr. A. L. Solgaard, as the speaker of the day, then interrupted the announced program to read a lengthy biographical sketch of the club president—birth, migration to California, education, marriage and fields of endeavor before and since coming to Los Banos.
C. W. Bates joined in to present him with a special badge symbolic of his rank and position; L. J. Spindt added a few caustic comments and presented appropriate gifts of doubtful monetary value, as did Frank Peluso; and Charlie Kaljian supplied appropriate sound effects with a mechanical cow-bellowing device.
On the serious side, Anderson took the opportunity to express his appreciation and thanks to the membership for their cooperation and help through the year, with especial thanks to Charles Kaljian and Hugh Weber, who have served as program coordinators for the year.
Incoming president Jess Telles spoke, briefly to extend official greetings, briefly summarize some of his plans for the coming year, and make a few announcements pertaining to future meetings. Fred Rosa will serve as program coordinator for the new club year.
