Don Petersen Tells Of Agriculture Act
Don Petersen, Merced County farm advisor, explained many of the various provisions of the 1954 Agricultural Act to members of the local Rotary Club at their luncheon Tuesday noon.
Stating the act is primarily a revision of former agricultural control legislation, plus the new wool control act.
The speaker explained the several plans now in operation by the government in help stabilize agricultural production and prices, and analyzed the factors concerning them.
In the instance of milk and dairy products, he said the reduction of support price ration was designed to discourage further increased production, and to bring the industry within its own consumer limitations. He said the $2 ½ million provided by the government for the school lunch program will be an important factor in assisting this industry toward stabilization. Petersen said that when the next Congress is called into session one of their first jobs will be further consideration of the dairy problems.
