Red Cross Dive Now Underway
Gene Pappani, chairman of the Red Cross fund drive, touched off the drive in Los Banos Tuesday noon at the Rotary Club as he named the captains of the 12 city districts and distributed lists of potential contributors.
Collectors for the drive will be G. S. Elliott and Edmund Enos, Manuel Calderon and Paul Benz, Jack Cyr and Marshall Jose, Wm. Raznoff and Chas. Alden, Ralph Cargile and Oscar Brereton, Carl Hultgren and Paul Morbes, R. M. Miano and L. J. Spindt; George Hutchins and Al Fittje, George Ingham and W. N. Galloway, T. A. Paradiso and Dr. Ken Powers, Ernest Toscano and William McCandless.
Pappani said the quota for the Los Banos-Dos Palos Chapter is $4,663 this year, of which Los Banos will be asked to subscribe approximately 58 per cent.
Rural collections will be handed by Jack Duarte and John Miranda. They are now forming their committees and assigning districts, and hope to have their part of the campaign concluded at the same time as that of the city. Pappant states that in the concluding days of the drive, local ladies will be recruited to staff stands at both banks, where individuals who were not contacted in the personal canvass will have an opportunity to make their contribution.
In a proclamation announcing the opening of the campaign in California, Gov. Earl Warren stated: "I urge all the people of our state to contribute wholeheartedly to the Red Cross so that this organization so vital to our well being may continue to meet effectively the heavy demands placed upon it."
