Rotarians See New California Film
Members of the local Rotary Club Tuesday noon had the opportunity to see "Golden Horizons," the new 30-minute, full color, 16-mm, sound motion picture produced under sponsorship of Pacific Gas & Electric Co, as a pictorial review of the State of California. The film, widely heralded for its portrayal of the agricultural, industrial, residential and recreational opportunities in this state, was primarily designed for showing to the people of other states and nations.
In the pictorial picture of the state emphasis is placed on the rapid growth of the state and the tremendous industrial and agricultural development that is now going on. In the last 10 years California's population has increased 37 per cent; individual income is up 90 per cent; cash farm income has grown 42 per cent; and the value added to the area's products by manufacturing has climbed 95 per cent.
The record-breaking expansion of P.G.&E, is also pointed out in the film, as new dams, hydro-electric plants and transmission lines dot the state in the scramble to keep power production facilities ahead of actual power demand.
The film was shown through courtesy of M. D. Wheat, manager of P.G.&E's Los Banos division, with P.G.&E's Walter Dibiaso on the projector.
New Members
Two members were officially welcomed to the club by Trustee W. H. Sloan. They were A. C. "Bill" Solis, manager of the Los Banos office of the Credit Bureau of Merced County, Inc., and Ray Wilkie, manager of the Los Banos plant of Halton Tractor Co. Solis came to Los Banos from Merced, where he was associated with the Merced Credit Bureau. His wife and their 10-year-old twin girls will join him here next month. Wilkie also came to Los Banos from Merced where he was associated with the company after having received his initial tractor experience at Caterpillar's own manufacturing plant.
