Have Ladies Night
Members of the local Rotary
Club and their wives met at an evening dinner meeting Thursday night of last week
to hear Col. John Morley of Brentwood, speak in favor of a strong U. S. espionage
system as essential to this country’s future welfare and a lasting peace.
Col. Morley, a member of the U. S. Office of Strategic Services, said
the OSS was a powerful influence in the final allied victory, and could have been
of untold further assistance had they been well organized before we actually became
involved in warfare.
Pointing out that the United States is the only
country in the world that does not have an espionage system operating in foreign
countries in time of peace, Col. Morley told of many instances of such espionage
work here in the United States by our war enemies.
