Los Banos Rotary Club History
Unusual
Program At Rotary
An unusual and interesting program
featuring fluorescent and phosphorescent materials was presented at the Rotary
Club luncheon Tuesday noon by Tom Goff, Red Cross Field Director at Castle Field,
Merced. By means of a special ultra-violet light. Goff showed numerous samples
of rock that under normal light appeared only as the usual drab looking granite
from any Sierra region, but which under the ultra-violet light glistened with
the many colors brought out by the special lamps.
He also showed numerous
paintings, mostly of flowers, that he had personally painted, using fluorescent
paint materials. Goff said that the light had high commercial value in its ability
to quickly determine mineral bearing ore, and had been widely used by the government
through the war years in the frantic search for war-essential materials.
A motion picture film, based on the last days of the war and the victory
celebrations, was shown afterward.
