Renee Smith also a Los Banos High graduate, is currently attending UC Merced. Renee is majoring in Earth Systems Sciences and Minoring in Ecology. Renee spent her last 3 months in Yosemite National Park pursuing a wildlife internship there.

Renee told of the academic partnership between UC Merced and Yosemite National Park. Yosemite National Park sponsors the "Wilderness Desk" at UC Merced which offers a variety of programs including General Information about Yosemite, Trip Planning, Outreach to schools, student and group trips.

In addition, their Internship program provides unique, hands-on experience for students studying Wildlife and Ecology related subjects.

The Park cooperates in research experience programs funded by National
Science Foundation. Only 8 students a year are fortunate enough to be
chosen for these research experience programs and Renee was one of them.
